homemade stain treater

I LOVE this stain treater.  And with 5 kids and a husband who is either baking food or rolling around on a sand volleyball court, I NEED a good partner in the stain wars.

My sister gifted me this a few Christmases ago and I love, love, love it!  (are you sensing that I have strong feelings here?)  It was a “recipe” that had been handed down to her from her mother-in-law and her grandmother-in-law.

It is super easy and super cheap – both things I super love!

All you need is some kind of container.  I have a plastic ketchup bottle but you could use just about anything.  It is handy to have something that has a narrow “squirter” on it.

The recipe isn’t precise.  In the original recipe you mixed equal parts, but since Dawn now comes in “Ultra Concentrated” I use less of it.  Use about 1/3 Dawn to 2/3 Hydrogen Peroxide.  Gently turn around a few times to mix and voila!  It will lose the blue color after a couple days.  I’m not sure why but it still works the same.

I use this as a pre-treater (if I catch the stain in time – rarely happens around here).  I use this most-often on stains I don’t catch until the clothing has already been through the dryer…and it still works!!  Seriously, this is good stuff.  It even got out some baby poop stains – and you moms know how those stains NEVER come clean!

Now for the **WARNING.**  The first time my mom used this she got a little overzealous and used so much that it sudsed up her laundry room.  So just remember, please, that a little goes a long way.  (sorry to rat you out, Mom)

I have also used this on stubborn carpet stains.  It works well, but takes a little effort to rinse out.  (just a word to the wise)

Happy Laundering!
